The Tatamy Fire
Company was formed in 1921. In the council minutes for February 7th, 1921,
action was taken to authorize the citizens to organize a fire company and
council pledged itself to pass an ordinance for the laying of water mains
of sufficient size. The Fire Company was organized February 21st, 1921 when
23 people of the community met. Charles Deichman called the meeting to order,
and William Penn Broad was elected as the first president. Joseph A. Happel
became the first charter member. In September 1921, the company aquired an
automobile which was converted into a fire fighting apparatus equipped with
chemical tanks, pumper, etc. On December 4th, 1922, the company responded
to its first call, a barn on the property of Mary Dietrich, along a concrete
highway at Nisky.
